Reynold Yang, a Chinese clarinetist, composer, and conductor, has earned numerous international accolades for his clarinet playing and is recognized as an official Young Artist with RZ Clarinets in the Czech Republic.

Currently, Reynold is pursuing undergraduate studies in clarinet at the Royal College of Music under the guidance of Richard Hopsford, supported by Miss Morey with the Anthony Jennings Award.

Reynold has achieved first place and gold prizes in various prestigious competitions, including the 2020 New Zealand Talented Young Artist Competition, the 2022 Charleston International Contemporary Competition, the 2023/2024 Clara Schumann International Competition (age category 14-16), the 2024 Virtuoso International Music Awards, and the 2024 US-Canadian International Music Competition, where he won platinum in the youth category. Additionally, he earned the Best Soloist with a Band Award and gold medals in both solo and chamber music performances at the 2023 New Zealand Concert Band Competition, as well as the Best Under 18 Soloist title at the 2023 Matamata Band Festival.

Reynold has performed with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in their Big Play In program, served as the first clarinet for the Auckland Youth Orchestra, and participated in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra’s Young Talented Artist Showcase concert. He also held the position of principal clarinet in the New Zealand Secondary School Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to his orchestral work, Reynold has been involved in festivals such as the KBB Honors Band/Orchestra (2022/2023) and served as a Young Artist-in-Residence at the 2023 Akaroa Music Festival. He previously received a scholarship from the Pettman Junior Academy, which operates in Auckland and Christchurch.

Looking ahead, Reynold aims to further develop his skills in both clarinet and conducting while participating in numerous European music festivals, performances, and competitions.

Reynold is also an endorsing RCM artist.

Reynold currently plays on the RZ Solo Clarinet.
