Ricardo Freire works as Clarinet Professor at the Universidade de Brasília- UnB, since 1995, and he organized the creation of the Associação Brasileira de Clarinetistas. He studied clarinet at the University of Brasilia with Luiz Gonzaga Carneiro, and completed his MM and DMA at Michigan State University under the guidance of Dr. Elsa Verdehr.  His doctoral dissertation entitled “History and Development of the Clarinet in Brazil” is a landmark for everyone interested in Brazilian clarinet players. Dr. Freire is an active researcher and has published over 120 articles on the subjects of clarinet performance, music education and music cognition. He participates as columnist of  The Clarinet, writing News from Latin America. In 2021, he published Clarinet Voice: intonation, resonance and projection, to explore the possibilities of the clarinet player as a singer.
