Jan Czech - Principal clarinet of the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK)

Solo clarinetist of the Prague Symphony Orchestra since June 2019. In the past he was a
clarinetist of the North Czech Philharmonic (2012–2020), with whom in November 2013 he
completed the prestigious "Toyota Classics" tour of Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and
Brunei. During 2014-2019 he also worked as a member of the Orchestral Academy in the
Czech Philharmonic, in the PKF - Prague Philharmonia and in the Czech Radio Symphony
Orchestra. He was also a member of the CEI Youth Orchestra (2008, 2009).

Jan is a laureate of several national and international competitions. In 2013, he won the Czech
Clarinet Art international clarinet competition in Hořice. He also participated in the semifinals
of the international radio competition New Talent under the auspices of the EBU, his
competitive performance was broadcast live by Czech Radio 3 Vltava. In 2010 he won
number of prizes at major Czech and international competitions: 2nd prize at the international
clarinet competition in Carlino, Italy, honorable mention at the international competition in
Wroclaw, absolute winner of the national radio competition Concerto Bohemia (in
cooperation with wind octet), 2nd prize at the international competition Concorso
Internazionale di Musica "Marco Fiorindo". In 2008 and 2010 he won the 2nd prize in the
international competition Markneukirchener Wettbewerb für junge Instrumentalisten. In 2009
he became the winner and holder of the title of laureate in the Competition of Conservatories
and Music Grammar Schools of the Czech Republic.

Jan performs solo with leading music ensembles in the Czech Republic. In 2008, 2010 and
2012 he performed with the PKF - Prague Philharmonia and the Czech Chamber Orchestra in
Dvořák's Hall of Rudolfinum at concerts of the cycle "Josef Suk presents young talents". In
2011 he collaborated with the Bennewitz Quartet and two years later, in 2013, he performed
with the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra at the concert of the winners of the Czech
Clarinet Art competition in Hořice. Since 2014, he has also regularly performed as a soloist
with the North Czech Philharmonic.

He began studying music at the F. A. Špork Elementary School of Art in Lysá nad Labem. He
spent the first years playing the piano there and in 2003 he began playing the clarinet. He
continued his studies at the Jan Neruda Grammar School in Prague in a class with a musical
focus under the guidance of prof. Milan Polák. In the years 2012-2018 he graduated from the
Faculty of Music of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts Brno in the clarinet
class of prof. Milan Polák and doc. Vít Spilka. In 2009 and 2010 he took part in international
interpretation courses in Žirovnice and in 2011 master classes in Porlezza, Italy. Since
September 2020, he has been teaching at the Vadim Petrov Elementary Art School in Prague.

Sóloklarinetista Symfonického orchestru hl. m. Prahy FOK od června 2019. V minulosti byl
klarinetistou Severočeské filharmonie Teplice (2012–2020), se kterou v listopadu 2013
absolvoval prestižní turné „Toyota Classics“ po Vietnamu, Kambodži, Malajsii a Bruneji.
Dále působil v letech 2014-2019 jako člen orchestrální akademie v České filharmonii, v
Pražské komorní filharmonii a v Symfonickém orchestru Českého rozhlasu. Byl také členem
mezinárodního mládežnického orchestru CEI Youth Orchestra (2008, 2009).

Jan je laureátem několika národních a mezinárodních soutěží. V roce 2013 zvítězil na
mezinárodní klarinetové soutěži Czech Clarinet Art v Hořicích. Dále se zúčastnil semifinále
mezinárodní rozhlasové soutěže New Talent pod záštitou EBU, jeho soutěžní výkon vysílal
živě Český rozhlas 3 Vltava. V roce 2010 získal řadu cen na významných českých
i mezinárodních soutěžích: 2. cena na mezinárodní klarinetové soutěži v italském Carlinu,
čestné uznání na mezinárodní soutěži ve Wroclavi, absolutní vítěz národní rozhlasové soutěže
Concerto Bohemia (ve spolupráci s dechovým oktetem), 2. cena na mezinárodní soutěži
Concorso Internazionale di Musica „Marco Fiorindo“. V roce 2008 a 2010 získal 2. cenu
v mezinárodní soutěži Markneukirchener Wettbewerb für junge Instrumentalisten. V roce
2009 se stal vítězem a držitelem titulu laureáta v Soutěži konzervatoří a hudebních gymnázií
České republiky.

Jan vystupuje sólově s předními hudebními tělesy České republiky. V letech 2008, 2010
a 2012 vystoupil s Pražskou komorní filharmonií a Českým komorním orchestrem ve
Dvořákově síni Rudolfina na koncertech cyklu „Josef Suk uvádí mladé talenty“. V roce 2011
spolupracoval s Bennewitzovým kvartetem a o dva roky později, v roce 2013, vystoupil
s Filharmonií Hradec Králové na koncertu vítězů soutěže Czech Clarinet Art v Hořicích. Od
roku 2014 pravidelně vystupuje jako sólista také se Severočeskou filharmonií Teplice.

Hudbu začal studovat na Základní umělecké škole F. A. Šporka v Lysé nad Labem. První
roky zde věnoval hře na klavír a v roce 2003 začal hrát na klarinet. Ve studiích pokračoval na
Gymnáziu Jana Nerudy v Praze ve třídě s hudebním zaměřením pod vedením prof. Milana
Poláka. V letech 2012-2018 vystudoval hudební fakultu JAMU v Brně v klarinetové třídě
prof. Milana Poláka a doc. Víta Spilky. V letech 2009 a 2010 se zúčastnil mezinárodních
interpretačních kurzů v Žirovnici a roku 2011 mistrovských kurzů v italské Porlezze. Od září
2020 vyučuje na Základní umělecké škole Vadima Petrova v Praze.
